Licence Condition
The licensee must engage a suitably qualified professional person(s) to prepare a report that outlines strategies to ensure that groundwater from mine workings on the premises is managed in an environmentally satisfactory manner so that uncontrolled discharges of mine affected ground water do not occur. The report must include but need not be limited to; An assessment of the integrity of the highwall and any proposed action in relation to the highwall that is considered to be required to manage the groundwater; A site water balance including modelling of a worst case scenario; An assessment of proposed actions to minimise water inflows into the underground workings; An assessment of practical measures to increase groundwater storage capacity in constructed basin(s) and the feasibility of establishing additional storage capacity at the premises; An assessment of practical strategies for a groundwater quality treatment program of the mine affected groundwater; and Expected date for commencement and timelines of strategy options to be adopted. The report must be provided to The Regional Manager, Environment Protection Authority, PO Box 488G, Newcastle, 2300 by no later than 5:00 PM on Friday 27 July 2012.
